sharing and training can be a logistical nightmare

I have been sharing and/or training others in with my little Functional Fitness program now since 2008.  At first it was just a few guys, who came and went. For about two years straight now I have had a study inflow of people joining the ranks.

With this new year, I ran a group through K-Fit and got them up to speed, adding another 4 or so people to the overall group. Sounds great, right?  Well not if you were to walk into our gym at work at noon.  Don’t get me wrong, we have a great gym with three seperate rooms.  We have a few kettlebells, about 6 Physioballs and two full sets of Medicine Balls in addition to the typical fully stocked gym. The problem is that on some days we can have up to 13 people doing Kemme Fitness.  Yes, 13 people!

As a trainer, it is not as bad as it sounds.  I can actually get in a nice complete workout myself because not only are almost the entire group self-sufficient with the program, there are a handful that can demonstrate all the exercises for anybody who can’t quite remember what the difference between a Psycho Push-up and a Plyo Push-up is. I barely have to stop what I’m doing to instruct others.

The issues are 2.  Space & equipment.  A dozen people doing dynamic exercises can easily fill up a room – don’t forget we share with the regular folks too.  Also, there are not enough Physioballs or Kettlebells, etc. for each person to have one.  So far to solve this, we sometimes split up what workouts we are doing and try to be flexible with the order of things so we aren’t all trying to use the same piece of equipment at the same time.

Sometimes one of God’s biggest blessings (in this case being able to share this stuff with tons of folks) can also be a cross to bare. Trying to organize this program to not exclude people, marginalize them, or force them to leave the group is an ongoing challenge.  But, I suppose, in the end, this is a good problem to have.

The simple solution? Open your own gym. 🙂

Yeah, my family would love to have that added to my writing, painting, exercising, working, overtime, and training. It would be nice though

One day, I shall invent the 32 hour day, and we will all have time for what we want to do!

Dude, sign me up. 32 hour day would mean would have time to all the things I wanted to do…that is until I fill that day up with other stuff and still complain that there is not enough time in a day!
